An assortment of trees and electric wires came down and started a fire
at the corner of Greycourt and Craigville Roads on June 24
Blooming Grove Supervisor, Rob Jeroloman warned that the recent upsurge in quickly moving violent storms can result in life-threatening situations in seconds, and he asks residents to use extreme caution. For instance, last week the down wires on Craigville Road also initiated a fire. Some streets and roads, as in the Craigville instance, have a complexity of wires, and when they come down no one but an electrical representative should guess which wires are cable and which are electric, it could be a guess causing death. The best response to seeing a wire down is to turn around and seek a different route, especially if there is an abundance of water.
The Prospect Gardens construction on Prospect Road is another site to use caution with whenever there is a hard rain. Issues remain with the drainage flow from the steep hillside created with a veritable mountain of fill. Once again on Sunday night (July 1) muddy water gushed down the steep hillside, out of drains, and flowed down the gully and across the road. It doesn't take that much water to cause a lightweight vehicle to get swept into a ditch in such circumastances. Fortunately this time the overflow did not last very long, and Highway Superintendent Wayne Kirkpatric responded to the Courier photos and video taken at the time, checked it immediately and when the water subsided he noted that the infrastructure there had held up quite well.
