Family members and friends gathered at Veterans Park on Main Street in the Village of Washingtonville.
An invocation from a representative of Washingtonville's Presbyterian Church was followed with a prayer with the approximately 20 people who attended. on this very chilly and windy morning which actually ended with the first significant snoflakes of the season.
Liz DeVinko (Mayor DeVinko's daughter, who is regularly involved with the work of the VFW), spoke of the importance of not just "recognizing" veterans, but also stepping forward to "Do" things for and with them. This is an opportunity that the residents of Washingtonville and Blooming Grove take pleasure in, and they hold numerous functions, programs, activities and recognitions throughout the year. Unfortunately, because the video would not condense properly I had to shorten that .....and in doing so it repeats and does not progress back to the rest of the story. So,, sadly I had to delete it and will post it separately. Hopefully as long as you close the invocation video with the
"X" the rest of the story will progress properly.

Heads bowed in prayer and recognition of every American who has worn a uniform and served as a Veteran.

Five of the veterans who were present, Elizabeth DeVinko, and Mayor Tom DeVinko in the bright yellow jacket.
Elizabeth told of an opportunity just last week when she met a veteran who had not yet been to the VFW on Main Street. After visiting there with other veterans he told her how much he appreciated it and that being with other veterans with similar experiences, it felt like "Home".
