Courier Journal Choice of Athletes of Fall, 2025 is Lola & Gunner Moye

Updated: Nov 24, 2025

Fastest Time

6th place out of 53 runners from multiple area schools

Balancing schoolwork, home responsibilities, athletics, religion and community activities is often an overwhelming chore. With honor roll status, extraordinary assistance both at home and in community activities for Mom, Lola assisting her younger brother who is excelling in spite of some special challenges, and now Lola is becoming a Track Star in her own right, well there is no other way to say it, Lola is becoming a beautiful and extraordinary young lady.

Even at her young age, if I knew of anyone who had a special physical challenge, if Lola (who may well become a professional physiotherapist in a few years) was available she be the helper of choice. And going with Celina and Gunner to the group called "Beautiful People" who recognize that people with "Special Challenges" may be a little different, but certainly not "Less" is such a great lesson.

Actually, Gunner should be close to first place as well considering his accomplishments this year, which includes playing soccer, what requires development of an inordinate level of coordination. What some people may not "get" is that not only have Lola, Celina, the folks at Rifton, (who makes the adaptive bikes), and Beautiful People Adaptive Sports helped Gunner get stronger, coordinated, understand and speak better, all of this plays a part in his continually improving overall neurological system. And with that... what is that phrase, "The future is so bright we've got to wear shades".

Then, on top of that, and being on the honor roll, she took her skills at being a runner and pushed them to their limit, and this year not only place near the top of the other track members she ran with, she came up with the fastest time of the whole season.

Considering that Mom Celina won an award in 2021 as a 99th Assembly District Woman of Distinction for her contributions to the Community. No wonder both Lola and Gunner are exceptional.
