City of Newburgh To Celebrate Black History With Raising of Pan-African Flag

CITY OF NEWBURGH (NY) - The City of Newburgh will host a flag raising ceremony on February 1 st to usher in the start of Black History Month, and to recognize and celebrate the central role of Black and African Americans in shaping and strengthening America. The Pan-African flag is a tri-color flag of three equal horizontal bands of red, black, and green, first adopted by Marcus Garvey’s UNIA-ACL organization in 1920 to represent people of the
African Diaspora.
The flag raising ceremony will be held Thurssday, February 1, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. at Broadway Park, also known as Downing Vaux Park, located at the intersection of Broadway and Colden Street.
