There were months worth of planning for Memorial Day Events and a spectacular parade that had to be canceled out of an abundance of caution due to forecasts of heavy rain on Monday morning. The rain ended up being relatively light and intermittent, but fortunately not enough to keep those who held memories of friends, relatives and known heroes who had their lives snuffed out by the ravages of war. from showing their respect. The gatherings, and a few dedicated marchers who pledged to walk the parade route whether "rain or shine", felt a strong duty to do so, and the camaraderie of others holding the same kind of pain and reverence helps to lessen the sadness and replace it with shared memories of the commitments to family and nation, that made the sacrifice worthwhile to those in the struggles for honor and freedom.

Washingtonville Cemetery's service brought dozens of families, many placing flowers on the gravestones in this expansive historic graveyard, during the event sponsored by Post 8691 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Amvets, VFW Auxiliary, and Mayor Thomas John DeVinko along with other guests.
