After nearly half a year searching for a new Village Historian, the Washingtonville Village Board decided to broaden the reach of code so they could include a Town resident, who they already knew as a person with a very rich and lifelong interest and knowledge of area history, Jeanne Versweyveld. The position needed to be filled after the death of Linda Standish who had contributed to many community needs for years.
Upon request to be the new official Historian, Jeanne said "When the Village Clerk phoned me to say that the qualification was being altered, (to include a Town or Village ressident), I thought this means that I am probably meant to fill the shoes of my dear friend, Linda Standish."
"My history knowledge and love of Washingtonville goes back many, many years. The guidance and wisdom of EJ McLaughlin years ago, inspired me to further that knowledge. I recently did a photo history of many of the old homes and businesses in the Village for the Friends of Moffat Library annual meeting. Hearing the wonderful comments from those who were present when the resolution to appoint me was made was quite gratifying and gave me the impetus to continue. My years of service to the Moffat Library Board of Directors and being an integral part of the restoration of that awesome building also sustains my resolve to do even more service."
