Warwick/Florida/Goshen - Senator James Skoufis (D-Orange County) joined Assemblymember Karl Brabenec and local town and village leaders to announce the start of a much-anticipated $30 million project that will modernize State Routes 17A and 94 through the towns of Warwick and Goshen

This project will facilitate significant improvements from the state line with New Jersey to the Village of Goshen, including 14 miles of sorely needed repaving. Numerous traffic signals will be updated; new crosswalks, sidewalks, and curbing will be installed; drainage will be upgraded in flood-prone areas; and a new roundabout will be installed at the intersection of Route 94, County Road 1A, and Reservoir Road.

With an eye towards improved safety, the project is slated to replace three culverts along 94 and one along 17A to better address stormwater runoff and newly resurfaced roads will be striped with reflective paint to increase visibility of road markings during storms. Work will continue through the rest of this year’s and next year’s construction seasons.

“I am thrilled to see this extremely impactful project get underway,” said Senator Skoufis. “The Hudson Valley’s state roads have been historically underfunded, resulting in unacceptable driving conditions. That’s why local leaders and I have pushed so hard to move this project along: Significant stretches of road resurfacing, construction to address traffic patterns in congested locations, and improvements to drainage systems so our roads aren’t washed away every time it rains. This project is a huge step in the right direction.”

“This is what bipartisan leadership looks like,” said Assemblymember Brabenec. “I’m proud to work with Senator Skoufis to deliver real results for our communities. Fixing our roads is one of the top issues I hear about, and this project is a major step toward getting it done. There’s more to do but today marks a strong start.”

“Our local state-owned roads have been neglected for many years,” Supervisor Jesse Dwyer. “We are thankful that after years of advocating, New York State is investing the time and money into our local infrastructure.”

The Village of Warwick is pleased that this long-awaited project is beginning,” said Mayor Michael Newhard. “The scale and detail of the multi-phase, multi-year NYSDOT Project will be impactful to this part of Orange County. Working with the design engineers over a two year period has allowed a greater leverage of resources and expanded the scope of the project. Thank you to Senator Skoufis and Assemblyman Brabanec for their continual support in Albany and at home.

“I’m thrilled to see this much needed infrastructure project happen,” said Mayor Daniel Harter. “The Village has witnessed NYS Route 94’s deterioration become more dangerous and severe over several years. Thank you to all who helped secure this funding and we look forward to it’s completion, not just for the Village of Florida but all commuters in our area.

“We recognize and appreciate Senator James Skoufis’s efforts in directing tax dollars toward the repaving of high-traffic roads in our area,” said Goshen Supervisor Joe Betro.”This investment will improve safety, traffic flow, and the overall quality of our infrastructure. It's encouraging to see our tax dollars being put to work in ways that directly benefit the community.”

“While this project only includes a small section of the Village of Goshen, we’re happy to see these improvements happening and excited for our neighboring communities who will benefit the most,” said Goshen Mayor Molly O’Donnell. “We’re hopeful this kind of investment continues and reaches other critical roadways like Route 207 in the near future. Thank you to Senator Skoufis, Assemblymember Brabenec, and all involved for prioritizing infrastructure in our region.”
