I am happy to share news on two major paving projects:
In Monroe, it’s the one everyone’s been waiting for - 17M is finally getting finished. The project will be completed in two sections: Monroe-Harriman (17M at Gilbert Street all the way to the Route 17 intersection) and another stretch from Goshen to Chester that had previously been sidelined (17M at Rte 207 to the 94 intersection). NYSDOT is scheduled to go out to bid in the spring, with paving complete within the 2026 construction season.
Heading west, work on the five-mile stretch of Route 17, between Exit 116 and 119 from Middletown/Wallkill to the Orange-Sullivan line, is wrapping up. With the road finished, exits will be milled and paved, improving conditions for drivers. Work is scheduled to begin September 24.
These stretches of road have been in unacceptable condition for far too long. Unsafe roadways are about more than an inconvenient drive: they impact our quality of life, hit our wallets, and strain the local pride we have in our communities.
Complaints about the condition of state roads do not fall on deaf ears. I hear them, and I agree. I will always continue to fight for more resources and more support.
