Pine Bush Canadian Horse Murderer Sentenced to 2-6 Years With "Mischief Charge", Allegedly "Beating Horse to Death"


GOSHEN – A Canadian national who worked at the Pine Bush Training Facility in the Town of Crawford was sentenced in Orange County Court on Monday, July 7 to two to six years in state prison in connection with the beating death of a racehorse.


Frederick Bourgault, 27, was convicted of criminal mischief for having “damaged” a racehorse named “Finish Line,” that had an estimated value of at least $5,000.


It was alleged that he struck the horse with a hard object causing a linear depressed skull fracture, that resulted in the horse having to be euthanized.

Bourgault was also convicted of interference with or injury to certain domestic animals under state Agricultural and Markets law, for willfully and unjustifiably injuring or destroying a racehorse.


He was also ordered to pay restitution of $5,000.

State Police, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the State Gaming Commission conducted the investigtion into the horse’s death.
