New Blooming Grove Senior Breaks Ground

Updated: Nov 29, 2022

The new 6,000 sq. ft. Senior Center for Blooming Grove located just inside the entrance at Lasser Park had a great start with a Community Development Block Grant to cover much of its cost. But then COVID hit. The project had to be shelved for almost 2 years. Even now there are troublesome supply chain issues. But despite the problems, recent months have seen RFP's (requests for proposals) go out, bidders respond, and contracting companies selected.

If you haven't been to Lasser Park recently, take a look at recent progress: Site is graded and they are setting rebar for additional stabilization. Work by Barone Construction Group continues. The basic structure itself will be delivered in pod units, and everything it will be set on and the surrounding area has to be 100% ready to receive the units immediately when delivered.

Supervisor Rob Jeroloman told the Courier Journal earlier this month that with both exterior work and interior work (plus landscaping and handicap accessibility issues addressed at entrances and interior) he hopes the Senior Center will be completed by Fall, 2023.

While additional uses at Lasser are being developed, parking space will also be expanded, he said.

Security is tight at the building site which has an office trailer for the contractors and a line of enormous lights.

Another new project for the park was proposed at the 2nd Town Board Meeting in November. Councilman Steven Amante is making plans for a space that will enable community farming plots (first come first serve) in an area away from

the sports fields. More info will be shared on this plan as it develops.

Lasser Park is one of the Town of Blooming Grove's largest parks, with ample room for the many sports fans that use it as well, including Washingtonville Youth Football and Cheer.. It has the added advantage of beautiful views to the East, a concession stand, and a large covered shelter that functions for snacks, lunches, meetings and Summer Camp activities.
