Chief Doss with New Windsor Supervisor George Meyers and Town Council

Chief Doss has been a highly valued member of both the New Windsor Police Department, the New Windsor Community, and in fact all of Orange County due to has patience, good nature and involvement in communiy activities like Community Day (probably the largest in the county), and its recreation programs.

This week Doss retired afters 25 years as an officer, and the past 4 years as Chief. He was honored by Town Supervisor George Meyers and New Windsor's Town Board members, along with a final walkout by his Police Department team members. He also had the chance to congratulate his replacement, newly named Chief Daniel Valery.

But Robert Doss is not really retiring. He has been in talks with County Executive, Steve Neuhaus about serving in a new position as Deputy Commissioner for Police Services for the county's Emergency Services Center and the publc.

County Executive, Steve Neuhaus said he had met Doss before, but last year when he saw him in action during the horrific school bus accident he knew there was something special there that would benefit the County greatly. He has been in talks and texting ideas back and forth and says they both want to start to talk about some ideas to implement, including school safety.

The Department of Emergency Services runs five divisions in Orange County, including Emergency Communications (911), Emergency Management, Fire Services, Police Liaison Services and Emergency Medical Services. Each division provides separate services both to the public and to all emergency service agencies located within Orange County. Doss will be second in command of overseeing all of this.
