KINGSTON – It’s Christmas in June for the City of Kingston. US Senator Charles Schumer secured a $21.7 million grant to boost transportation and transform the city’s waterfront.
Mayor Steven Noble said this is by far the largest grant Kingston has ever received. “This will help with our new zoning code, be able to help develop a smart growth strategy and help to bring in new housing and new business along our waterfront in the right way,” he said.
The windfall will be applied to six projects – Kingston Point Rail Trail Phase Two; East Strand and North Street Complete Streets; the Trolley Trail as phase three of the Kingston Point Rail Trail; Rotary Park and Kingston Point Park Pedestrian connections as well as raising of Delaware Avenue; North Street Complete Streets; and East Strand Flood protections.
