Kingston Receives $21M Largest Grant in its History

Rondout Waterfront

KINGSTON – It’s Christmas in June for the City of Kingston. US Senator Charles Schumer secured a $21.7 million grant to boost transportation and transform the city’s waterfront.

Mayor Steven Noble said this is by far the largest grant Kingston has ever received. “This will help with our new zoning code, be able to help develop a smart growth strategy and help to bring in new housing and new business along our waterfront in the right way,” he said.

The windfall will be applied to six projects – Kingston Point Rail Trail Phase Two; East Strand and North Street Complete Streets; the Trolley Trail as phase three of the Kingston Point Rail Trail; Rotary Park and Kingston Point Park Pedestrian connections as well as raising of Delaware Avenue; North Street Complete Streets; and East Strand Flood protections.
