GEE-HAW!! LET THE HARVEST BEGIN- Hoeffner Farm Draft & Craft

Montgomery - SEAN GIERY AND HIS TEAM OF PERCHERONS DID THEIR JOB TREMENDOUSLY, DESPITE THE WEATHER AND SOIL CONDITIONS!

VIDEO

Did you ever wonder where the explanation "Gee-Haw" came from. Well, Gee mean "RIGHT" and haw means "LEFT'. Gee-Haw....STRAIGHT AHEAD. And that's how these farmers and horsemen do it, rain or shine, snow or sleet, keep moving forward! Add to that a little "Steady, Whoa, and Back", and that's the lingo if driving a team.

The Draft & Craft Show at Hoeffner Farm in Montgomery on Saturday, October 30, despite the weather, went off 'without a hitch'. Or actually WITH a hitch (sic). Hoeffner is one of the longest and largest vegetable, flower, and plant producing farms in Orange County.

The Hudson River Draft Horse Association holds a Spring Plowing Event and then in October they have a good old-fahioned Corn Harvest Festival at Hoeffner Farm in Montgomery. With fields as far as the eye can see, and another round of flooding in the area, the weather cleared up just enough for several dozen participants to set up their craft tables and welcome visitors throughout the day.

The highlight, for many, was "Cowboy Rancher and Percheron Team Driving Expert, Sean Giery, with his team of obedient and very strong Perches. Think a little rain and muddy fields are gonna stop these committed horsemen and farmers? Not a chance. While there was one mechanical delay (that's all part of it when you mix horses and a big iron machine and mud), as you can see in the video, he took the rein, yelled the commands to the team (gee and haw are for right and left). and the two experienced steeds put all they had into 'gettin 'er done'.

Craft tables included many Fall harvest designs, and a table and display rack full of exquisitely knitted articles of clothing.

Meanwhile, Orio the giant bunny was another favorite. A you can guess, yup, her colors are very dark chocolate and white.
