Fire In Basement of Third St. Abandoned Structure Blamed on "Smoking Materials"



At 0750 hours this morning the City of Newburgh Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 225 Third Street. At 0751, Newburgh Car 3 arrived on location and found smoke coming from a vacant structure. A second alarm was sounded by the incident commander. The building crews discovered a fire in the basement. Fire crews stretched hand lines and extinguished the fire.

According to City Fire Investigators the cause of the fire was the misuse of smoking materials.
