Chester Highway Superintendent -Grand Jury Charge Includes Attempted Murder



GOSHEN – The man accused of shooting a DoorDash deliveryman on the evening of May 2 has been indicted by an Orange County grand jury on charges of attempted murder, three counts of assault, criminal possession of a weapon and eight counts of criminal possession of a firearm.


John Reilly III, 48, the Town of Chester highway superintendent, allegedly shot at the man as he drove away from his home, striking him with one bullet in the back.


The driver had gone to Reilly’s house after becoming lost as he was making a delivery.


Reilly’s attorney said his client fired in self-defense.


Following his arrest and arraignment, Reilly was released after posting bail, which had been set at $250,000 cash, $500,000 fully secured bond or $750,000 partially secured bond.
