Blooming Grove Agrees to Give Monell Space for a Firefighter Training Structure

At Blooming Grove's July Workshop, Supervisor Rob Jeroloman shared a request from Washingtonville's Monell Engine Co. for space to put a structure for Firefighter's in Training to practice their entry skills, i.e. how to break into a structure during a fire as safely as possible. It took barely 10-15 minutes for Board members to weigh in, and get a few crucial details such as a. There will be NO ACTUAL FIRE INVOLVED! AND b. Highway Superintendent Wayne Kirkpatrick has surveyed the best site on the property to make sure it will not interere with movement of fire trucks, ambulance or any other first responder vehicles that might be moving on the property during an emergency. The Highway Yard is very large, so there is ample space, and the structure is not very large; in fact they said it is about the size of a medium sized shed.

With the new communication systems that first responders have, linking them to others in the county, this will provide yet another opportunity for firefighters, who already often work together, to save time and money and personnel time by having a nearby place for Volunteers to get some early practice.
