At SUNY People Loved Watching the Eclipse, Despite Some Clouds

On the Green at SUNY Orange – Middletown

Hudson Valley - Just as the eclipse began Monday, clouds rolled in and obscured much of the view in the region, but people nonetheless came out to watch what they could. At SUNY Orange in Middletown, the large turnout included college President Dr. Kristine Young.  “This is super exciting. You can see that we have students, we have community members on the green, we have VIPs from the community on the green,” she said.

Observers in the Poughkeepsie area did not experience the cloud-obstructed views as several onlookers gathered on the top level of the Financial Parking Deck to watch the astronomy show.

Others around the area were excited for a chance to see the eclipse.  “I think it’s pretty cool, but I wish the clouds would stop,” said one resident. “It’s once in a lifetime; it’s pretty cool to watch,” said another.

Many Orange County residents patiently waited, and in the end got at best a mostly cloud-covered glimpse of partial occlusion,

"Here Comes the Sun", at 5:05 on 4/8/24 our sun blazed through the clouds and reappeared.

Other areas of the Northeast were treated to a very different show as the moon almost completely covered the sun, darkening the daytime sky. NASA clearly got one of (and likely the best), high definition shots, but no matter where you were or how much of the moon cover you were able to see, almost all had a good time about it, and what a great (and odd of late) experience to see so many people happily pulling together
