Smoky Air Persists in Eastern Orange County Due to Canada Fires

8/9/25 - Blooming Grove, NY - Today is the first day this week that we in Eastern New York State have seen some blue skies, though you can still see a haze over the Schunnemunk Ridge, and there are yet more Air Quality Alerts coming due to the fire's particulate matter. Earlier this week it was much worse with a clear smell of smoke, and residents with respiratory or other health issues warned to stay indoors as much as possible. Many others who had outside work that was necessary found themselves tiring more quickly than usual, and requiring frequent breaks

From a bit farther away you can see the stark contrast between the lush green vegetation without the smokescreen

The one positive result from the end of day haze has been some pretty stunning sunsets.
