"Ensuring our seniors can retain their independence as they age is key to their quality of life. Many Orange County municipalities work hard to create those opportunities for seniors in their communities, and I was thrilled to join local seniors and elected officials this week to announce $717,000 in funding secured for Orange County senior centers.
Cornwall, Middletown, Wallkill, New Windsor, Deerpark, Hamptonburgh, Mount Hope, Warwick, Blooming Grove, Highland Falls, Woodbury, and Florida are among those receiving grants – all the senior centers in our Senate District owned by their local city, town or village – going directly towards a variety of improvements.
Select projects being funded include a new senior dial-a-bus, a new generator, window replacements, ADA entrance improvements, roof replacement, new A/V equipment, restroom upgrades, and kitchen renovations.
It’s wonderful to deliver this funding and I look forward to seeing the renovations and upgrades to facilities across the county".
Over the last few years James Skoufis also contributed several related earlier grants to Blooming Grove, including monies directed toward Blooming Grove's newest acquisition - The Lasser Farm Homestead on Station Road, on the property adjacent to the Blooming Grove Athletic Fields. The Lasser Homestead was first built in the 1840's, and deep in history it will, as it develops as a local historic site it will be a great asset for the seniors in the new Senior Center next door, as well as the many other folks in the area interested in Blooming Grove's history...especially as it located in Salisbury Mills, a hamlet located part in Blooming Grove and part in Cornwall, and is also adjacent to Cornwall. These two towns were historically one until 1799 and share a rich past.
Skoufis also went to great lengths this past year making visits at most of the senior centers in the area.
