State Senator James Skoufis (D-Orange County) announced that he has received the formal support of Supervisor George Meyers (R-New Windsor), the latest in a string of endorsements from Orange County municipal leaders on both sides of the aisle.
“I’ve worked closely with Supervisor Meyers for many years and know that his heart is with the people of New Windsor, not with politics,” said Senator Skoufis. “His support is meaningful during this pivotal time as early voting is underway. He knows that I’ll always fight to protect and support New Windsor’s families and first responders in the years to come.”
“As a former police commander, I take funding our first responders very seriously,” said Supervisor Meyers. “When some in his party were calling to defund the police, James Skoufis came out in support of our brave men and women in uniform, and provided funding for the New Windsor Police Department. He’s also been a huge supporter of my own efforts to keep our neighbors safe, and he has my full backing in this race.”
Earlier this week, Skoufis also announced the support of Republican Woodbury Mayor Andrew Giacomazza and two of the village board’s Republican trustees. Skoufis has long been backed by local leaders of both parties in his elections to the state legislature. He is running in the new 42nd Senate District which comprises the vast majority of Orange County.s
