Skoufis Announces $9.7M Repaving Project Along Route 17

ree

Senator James Skoufis (D-Orange County) applauded the start of a five-mile repaving project along State Route 17, from Route 302 in the Town of Wallkill to the Sullivan County line. The $9.7 million project will involve resurfacing the existing pavement with a more durable asphalt to increase the usable life of this critical stretch of roadway.

This section of Route 17 is a significant connector between the Hudson Valley and lower Catskills, and sees substantially increased traffic during the summer months. As such, most work will take place at night to avoid unnecessary traffic backups.

“Proactive maintenance of our transportation infrastructure is critical to ensuring Orange County residents can get where they need to go,” said Senator Skoufis. “Our region has the highest concentration of state roads anywhere in New York, yet often gets short shrift from Albany, and the folks who know that best are those who are forced to maneuver on the crater-like Route 17. I am thrilled to see these dollars invested where they’re needed and won’t stop fighting until Orange County gets its due in repaving money.”
