Residents Want Speed Decrease From Round Hill Road Northeast to Hudson

Updated: Jun 29

Blooming Grove - A couple who live at Locust Lane Farm on Route 208 Northeast of Round Hill Road made a plea to the Town Board this month to assist them in an effort to have the speed limit changed along a stretch of Route 208. The speed limit was dropped to 45 mph by Round Hill Elementary school, some years ago, but changes from 45 to 55 miles per hour, The entrance to Washingtonville. After that intersection it drops to 40 and then just a half mile later drops to 30 mph. These residents and numerouis others along that stretch of road say that their lives are often at serious risk trying to pull out of their driveways into 55 mph traffic when drivers try to make up their lost time by the Round Hill School by "stepping on it". There are numerous winding curves along there, just after the intersection with Round Hill Road. Then there are about 20 homes past Barnes Road where people have to practically "peel out" of their driveways to avoid being slammed. At Round Hill a speeding car coming East out of the curve (shown above) can't even be seen in time for a reasonably timed lefthand turn.

Supervisor Rob Jeroloman said that the Town had gone to a lot of trouble to get the portion to of Route 208 by the school reduced to 45 mph some years back, and that unfortunately, as usual, it required a serious accident to prompt the State to reduce speed limit. But he added that the town will try to do what it can. It is no longer a back country road with only a few houses. The couple making the complaint said that several years ago they lost a horse in a tragic accident in front of their farm, and there is definitely a need to have the 55 mph reduced to 45 mph for increased safety.
