Chester - In a Labor Day Weekend Update, County Executive Steve Neuhaus announced that he now has two unanimous votes in favor of the County taking full ownership of the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center, one by the County Legislature, and another by the Chester Town Board. Neuhaus added “All that is left is for me to sign the check”. There will be no bond or interest-bearing since the County has the funds. He emphasized that “It makes sense” given ithe building’s infrastructure need for repairs. And those are repairs that the Town cannot afford to make, but the County can.
Despite having the necessity for some renovations, the Center will remain open and has an exciting lineup already for this Fall. Stay tuned for a full list!
Neuhaus has high hopes for the PerformingArts Center’s future. He has already begun a sizeable list of future uses, primarily ones that will serve the public, and at no or low cost. The starter list includes free movies for veterans, seniors and children, and he is thrilled that he has already received requests from residents, including parents of children whose schools hold performances in school cafeteria and wish they could hold them at SLPAC. He was delighted at the idea and is encouraging people to send him more suggestions as well. Hoping to develop other community benefits, he also suggested that when seniors come to watch a free movie they could also be given a discount card so they can follow their outing with lunch or dinner out at a local restaurant.
Clearly the CE is eager to start lining up some shows, but use will be limited until some basic repairs have been completed, which with the resources the County has available should not take long, at least for a few basic necessities, like not having sewage back up into rest room toilets, which happened during a show earlier this year
This is a brand new enterprise for both the County and Community at large, so jump on the bandwagon and share your thoughts with him.

During his Friday Labor Day Weekend Address Neuhaus also announced his "ready to start" trails plan for the Sugar Loaf Mountain acquisition. Stay tuned for details on that later today.
