James A. Loughran Way Will Soon Be the New Name for the Road Alongside Famed IrishPub/Eatery

Loughran's Irish Pub & Restaurant on Route 94 in Blooming Grove

Schoolhouse Road in the Salisbury Mills, a hamlet of Blooming Grove, is soon going to have a new name, The new sign will say "James A. Loughran Way". At this week’s Town Board Meeting council members voted unanimously  to rename the road adjacent to the restaurant and pub in honor of its longtime owner, James “Jimmy” Loughran, who passed away in January of this year. The change is in thanks for many years of the great times  and memories community members have had there because of his outgoing and extremely friendly nature. His business was a frequent participant in communnity charities, and there are few locals who were not enticed a time or two when driving by on St. Patrick's Day, hearing the bagpipe music and camaraderie in the packed parking lot and wishing they were participating. It has been a true Irish Pub for as long as most residents can remember, and while they were there everyone was a little Irish.  The new road name will remind everyone that uses it of "Jimmy’s" broad smile and generous nature.

In special recognition, Highway Superintendent Wayne Kirkpatrick asked Supervisor Jeroloman to have the street sign redone with only Jim's name (rather than both its old and new names as is often done with a street being renamed). The vote was a resounding “Yes”, and with a bit of a twinkle in their eyes”, knowing how it pleased the Loughran Family. The short stretch of road goes from the corner of Route 94 at the pub just past the Salisbury Mills Firehouse (of which he was a member) to Orr's Mills Rd. and there is only one house that will be impacted by the name change.

The new road sign will require a lengthy list of relevant people and agencies to be notified, and the Courier will notify the community when it’s time for its installation, so stay tuned.
