An Asian man about 65 years old, identified as Gabriel Tse of New York City, who had been hiking in Harriman State Park, was found collapsed and unresponsive near the Reaves Meadow Visitor Center and was pronounced dead after a hour of numerous CPR attempts. The Daily Voice and Cecilia Levine, of the Monsey Scoop reported that EMS volunteers (including Sloatsburg Fire Department, Spring Hill EMS, Faist EMS, Tallman Fire Department, New York State Park Police, Ramapo Police Department and Chaverim Rockland) traversed difficult terrain and brought the deceased victim up on a specialized stretcher, with the help of Spring Hill, through a wooded area and terrain that was difficult. Because of the icy conditions it took awhile for the EMS Personnel to reach him. Some onlookers were critical of the amount of time it took for them to reach him. However, when they arrived a New York State Parks Police officer had already been administered CPR numerous times.
Authorities advise hikers and others to use extreme caution during these kinds of icy conditions when hiking or doing other outdoor recreation activities.
The victim, was examined by the Rockland County Medical Examiner and the incident remains under investigation. At this time is not considered to have been suspicious.
