Fire At Orange County Arboretum Causes Major Interior Damage


CAMPBELL HALL – Fire believed to have been caused by an electrical issue damaged the Ruth and Jim Ottaway Education Center at the Orange County Arboretum on Monday.





The fire broke out around 9:09 a.m. and brought out a number of area fire departments to assist the Campbell Hall department extinguish the fire in the attic and ceiling and spread into the walls.


No one was injured.


“The arboretum is one of the gems of the county parks system and we are saddened by the fire. However, we will continue to host events at the arboretum and refurbish the education center with great pride,” said County Executive Steven Neuhaus.


Assisting the Campbell Hall Fire Department were Maybrook, Coldenham, Montgomery, Goshen, Washingtonville, Silver Lake, Walden, and Bullville departments as well as Orange County Fire Coordinators and the Orange County Fire Investigation Unit.
