Colin Schmitt Plan - Adams Nor Biden Will Be Able to Relocate Migrants to New Windsor

New Windsor, NY -- (05/12/23) Republican and Conservative candidate for New Windsor Town Supervisor, former Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt (R,C New Windsor), released the following plan today to protect New Windsor from the relocation of illegal immigrants and migrants:

“The ongoing saga of the relocation of illegal immigrants and migrants to the Hudson Valley is a grave concern to all of us. When I am Supervisor neither NYC Mayor Adams nor President Biden will be able to relocate within our town.

When elected Town Supervisor I will use the full legal authority of our town government to prevent re-locations from occurring within our town.

Late last year the Biden Administration designated St. Christopher’s (formerly McQuade School) as a migrant relocation center, the town was notified of this move before it became public and did nothing. Now we have New York City Mayor Adams sending busloads of illegal immigrants to the Town of Newburgh and beyond, with our community potentially in the crosshairs.

Steps my administration will take once in office and that all towns should be immediately taking:

  • Declare a local state of emergency to prevent the re-location by other governments of illegal immigrants and migrants. Seek a TRO in State Supreme Court to enforce the order, which has been successfully done by the County of Rockland.

  • Immediately make updates to the town code that prevent extended hotel/motel stay durations that turn a location into an illegal long term migrant shelter. Seek TRO through the state Supreme Court to enforce town codes if necessary, which has been successfully done by the Town of Orangetown.

  • Affirm our local police department’s working relationship with ICE and all federal immigration and law enforcement authorities. Strictly enforce immigration laws and federal immigration detainers – unlike sanctuary cities like New York City and sanctuary counties like Ulster County.

Decisive action is necessary. No action is failure and unacceptable. As Supervisor I will always act in the best interest of keeping our town safe and protected.”

Colin Schmitt is committed to public service. Colin is a member of the U.S. Army National Guard and former Assemblyman for the 99th NYS Assembly District which included the Town of New Windsor as its largest town. Colin lives in the Town of New Windsor with his wife Nikki and their beloved rescue dog Quincy!
