Bill Cypher Exhibit of Inventive Metal Art Designs @ Mindy Ross Gallery SUNY Middletown Campus

A lifelong interest in machinery and transportation coupled with ingenuity and inventiveness have been the personal motivators for Bill Cypher to create three-dimensional artwork. His collection is varied in subject as well as size from small and lightweight to large and very heavy.

Come to the Mindy Ross Gallery in Kaplan Hall to view his creations made of copper, brass, steel, other metals, and found objects, and you will be amazed how leftover materials have been repurposed into art. Scale models of steam engines, vintage automobiles, an army tank, a biplane, a pirate ship, and miniatures – tricycle, motorcycle chopper, baby carriage, fishing boat, and more, plus a full-sized bicycle entitled Cypher – Cycle II are on display.

The exhibit entitled Cu at SUNY Orange is a visual demonstration of creative process, conceptualizing, and the ability to envision a product before completion.

The timeframe of the show is October 23, 2023 through January 19, 2024 with downtime for holidays November 22-26, December 21-January 1, and January 15. Regular gallery hours are 8am-9pm Monday-Thursday, and 8am–6pm Friday. The show and reception are free and open to the public.

The Art Reception for the show is scheduled for Sunday, November 12 1:30-4pm. Come meet the artist and find out what he may be soldering in his garage that will be his next piece of art.

Bill Cypher has been a plumbing and heating mechanic for over 30 years during which time he honed his skills in soldering and metal forming. He is a perfect example of the expression, “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure” as he is the ultimate recycler. He is often inspired when he comes across a single discarded item, once destined for the junkyard. The details in his works are interesting as well.

Kaplan Hall, SUNY Orange is located at the corner of Grand and First Streets, GPS: 73 First St, Newburgh, where free parking is available in the college garage.
