Assemblyman Colin Schmitt Calls for Thorough Assembly Investigation of AG Leticia James

Albany, NY — Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt (R,C,I,LBT,SAM - New Windsor) called for a formal State Assembly investigation into New York State Attorney General Letitia James’ handling of allegations of sexual misconduct involving her longtime Chief of Staff Ibrahim Khan and his resignation. According to published reports, Khan had previously been accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a staffer in the New York City Public Advocate’s office when James held that position in 2017.

Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt stated, “The New York State Assembly has an obligation to conduct a thorough and independent investigation of Attorney General Letitia James’ handling of the allegations of sexual misconduct against her top aide that led to his resignation, as well as published reports that this information was withheld from the public until after the election. Given the seriousness of the claims made against Letitia James’ Chief of Staff and his apparent history of violence against women, the Assembly Judiciary Committee must immediately collect all the facts and take appropriate action. These are credible and serious allegations involving the state’s chief law enforcement officer and this cannot wait until the State Legislature reconvenes in January. The State Assembly Judiciary Committee must convene a formal investigation at once into what Attorney General James knew, when she knew it, and why that information was withheld from the public.”

Colin Schmitt is committed to public service. Colin is a member of the U.S. Army National Guard and Assemblyman for the 99th NYS Assembly District which includes the Town of Stony Point in Rockland County and The Towns of Wawayanda, Goshen, Hamptonburgh, Chester, Blooming Grove, New Windsor, Cornwall, Highlands, and Woodbury in Orange County. Colin lives in the Town of New Windsor with his wife Nikki and their beloved adopted Catahoula Quincy!
