It is probably built into the ingenuity and grit of dozens of "Antique Car" enthusiasts, who often spend years finding and restoring a Classic car, to not give up enjoying one of their region's favorite events just because of a few raindrops. This was far more than a shower though, with lightning crossing the sky, downpours, and loud booms on and off for several hours, culminating just when the gleaming award statues were to be given out.
Some of these cars are indeed very old, dating back to the 1800's. Others are favorites of the 60's to 90's. All are in good enoough condition that they are not damaged by a 'little' rain. After a brief delay the sun came out just long enough to hand out the table full of awards, the winners wearing broad smiles and beaming proudly while accepting congrats from fellow classic car enthusiasts, each knowing the years of experience, struggle and hard work that go into such a win. And these gatherings are as much about reconnecting with longtime human friends who share a particular passion, as much as being about the cars. And this is true of the sponsors at Charles Quick Insurance, as much as the other attendees.
Summer is also the time when these classic (and classie) cars are out on country roads, so if you see one give a nod or a wave to show that there is community respect for those who cherish a "bit of the old" and love seeing them out and about.
