Chief Brian Zaccaro of the Washingtonville Police Department notified Washingtonville Mayor Tom DeVinko of an amazing feat accomplished by the Washingtonville Police Department on August 26. Chief Zaccaro wrote, "At 7:47pm, WPD responded to a 911 call for a 46-year-old male unconscious and not breathing inside his residence. WPD officers arrived within two and a half minutes and found the male not breathing and without a pulse. PD members immediately began life saving efforts which included CPR and the use of a PD defibrillator. After delivering a defibrillator shock and several minutes of CPR, the male regained a pulse and started to breathe on his own.
Because Blooming Grove EMS was on another emergency, the ambulance was delayed and PD members continued to access the patient alone for several minutes until the arrival of paramedics from New Windsor EMS and a second ambulance from Blooming Grove EMS. The male patient did survive the medical condition, and the officers will be recognized at a later date during the Department's Awards and Recognition Ceremony."
