NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh is going to establish a hotel/motel room tax in the weeks ahead.
The state legislature has given it the approval to charge up to five percent per night on a room. The city has only one motel, but the tax will be applicable to Airbnb and B&Bs of which there are said to be many.
Many municipalities, including the Town of Newburgh, charge a room tax as an added source of revenue, one that is not levied on local residents.
